Transylvania Partners for Democracy Sponsors May 2 Program on 2024 Presidential Election
The Transylvania Partners for Democracy invite citizens representing all political viewpoints to attend a public forum at the Mary Jenkins Center in Brevard. A presentation by Dr. Dan Carter, local resident and noted historian, will be followed by an open-mike discussion on the critical importance of the 2024 Presidential election. The event is scheduled for May 2 at 7:00pm.

Inspired by a similar group of bipartisan citizens in eastern North Carolina, the Transylvania Partners for Democracy (TPD) was recently formed to bring together Transylvania County neighbors to discuss the upcoming election and its role in shaping the future of democracy in the United States. The TPD welcomes new members and invites them to join in developing additional public forums focused on the election over the coming months.
Dr. Carter is the author of numerous books on American political history and the recipient of an Emmy for a PBS documentary based on his research. He has lectured widely in the United States, Europe and Australia.
"By insisting that the 2020 presidential election was stolen despite exhaustive independent reviews and 61 court cases rejecting his claims, " Carter said, "Donald Trump has ended the orderly transfer of presidential power that has existed since 1801 when John Adams -- despite bitter political differences with his opponent, Thomas Jefferson -- peacefully accepted the outcome of the election. And now, Donald Trump has threatened violence if defeated, and to use the power of the federal government to punish critics if he is elected."
The chair of the TPD, Dr. Wayne Clark, added, "We urge Transylvanians to join us in protecting the most essential foundation of American democracy: fair and free elections that are honored by those who seek our nation's highest office."
